I tried to, gave them to my mom, found out that she knows chinese, not japanese

There probally was some reason for the 300 and the 600 in s300 and s600, but that was so long ago that naming a car following that number system probally didn't make sense anymore.

s2000 - Car following honda's s nomenclature of using s for convertibles (2000 for the year 2000)

If anyone has any other ideas feel free to post them. I just made those three up using the dictionary and my mind.
As I remember the Civic actually started as the CVCC. Then it became the Civic (CiViCC) as an easier to market name in the U.S. market. I guess americans can pick a good car but are too stupid to pronounce four consanants in a row.

Did I spell that right?

CVCC was a type of egine (which stood for: Compound Vortex Combustion Chamber), not the original name of the Civic; so if a Civic had a CVCC engine, that's what they called it. For instance, there were Civic DX's, RS's, CVCC's, and others.

And there were Accord CVCC's.

And about the old S-series cars, they were called "S" for sports, and 360/500/600/800 for the cc displacement of the engine. Same as the S2000 today.
