octane booster supposedly boost the octane of the gas you are burning. In most instances if would take several gallons of the stuff to really notice a change in the performance of the car-which is still only a very slight change. Instead of buying it and taking a chance that it will do nothing, just get premium gas. Unless you have a few grand under the hood you will not need anything higher than 93 octane, so no, it is not worth buying. By running higher octane than neccessary it can also cause some serious problems for your car. Check your owners manual and see what the minimum requirement is for you make and model and go to the pump that is the next step up.

But if still you want more, you can also take a quarter of a moth ball per every ten gallons of gas and have the same or better result than any octane booster on the market. Just be careful, because extreme use of any additives in your gasoline to improve performance WILL cause premature failure of your catalytic converter-very expensive!-and other problems like detonation, hotter running motor, poor starting, etc.

octane booster is a mixture of mostly kerosene and other chems.. kerosene mixed with gas does boost the octane. I use the NOS octane booster, one can per tank of gas, it helps when u have a turboed car. YOU DO NOT GAIN POWER, it simply helps it so you can lean the mixture out alil bit to get alil more hp.. but dont rely on it.. it only bumps it up a couple points or so. Your best bet if u need super high octane is buy race gas

just make sure if you use race gas to put in a little at a time and make sure it is unleaded. Some places who sell it don't know all the time. It happend to one of my friends.

Race gas = bad. Premium is the way to go.

"octane" is a "derivative" measure - which describes how much compression it takes before the fuel detonates without a spark....

the higher the octane, the higher the compression the fuel can withstand before detonation.....

many modern cars have higher compression engines - therefore they require higher octane fuel.

If you put low octane fuel into a high compression engine - you will hear "pinging" cause by pre-mature fuel detonation (due to the high compression chamber detonating the low octane fuel)...

This is why running low octane when your car requires high octane can damage your engine...

What I do not understand, is what effect is there if there is MORE octane in fuel than "expected"... my guess is that it allows you to run higher compresssion .....
