First .. which car is it?
Second... smoking from the engine bay or exhaust? Mine is smoking from the exhaust.. blue smoke... it means my pistons and/or rings are shot. I could have them replaced... but I'm changing the engine no matter what, so no use. I'll just keep putting oil in it till I replace it. |

Blue smoke is oil which is blow by like Drift said
White smoke is condensation in the exhaust, a blown head gasket, warped head...anything that can get water in the engine. Black smoke is carbon build up mostly For the blue smoke you can try a thicker oil, that will lessen the smoke from the exhaust. For black smoke you can try to use Sea Foam which can be picked up at most auto parts stores. White smoke usually means you need to change the head gasket. To change the head gasket is the cheapest fix for this problem, but if it persists you might need to get the head to a machine shop to be shaved.

I seriously suggest you check your oil and top it up before you start your car again. If it's not being driven alot, just start for a couple minutes to move it around, it doesn't matter how old the oil is. Just make sure you top it up, because it souds like your burning it. Does it smoke on idle, or only when you press the gas? ...And if it's coming from that close to the motor, makes me think your exhaust is busted/rusted somewheres. Check into that and see if the break is small enough, you can usualy weld it shut as a temp fix. If it's rust, replace it completely, because a weld isn't gonna stop it from rusting more. Sometimes NEW exhaust can leak if not properly installed. Check if the connections and joints where 2 pipes meet have a secure and sealed fit. Check the clamps to see if the bolts are loose. Also, check your exhaust manifold for leaks. I hope this info helps you. I had fun writing this. ![]() - Nick 'Drift' |
