Default Wierd idling sound

Hi,

I am a newbie on cars. I have a problem on my Civic 95 LX. When I am idle, there is a wierd sound and it the car shakes more than usual. But when I turn off the aircon, lights and stereo that sound and the shaking minimizes. I just have a 140 kilometer check last Aug and had the compressor's tensioner berring replace.

Please help.

When was the last time the car was tuned up?

Sounds like the drain of the motor from the ac unit running is pulling too much power.

I just had the 140 kilometer check with honda last Aug, it includes the tune-up. And the tensioner berrings of the compressor was replace last weekend.

What should I do? How can I check the output of the alternator? How can I adjust the power the AC unit?

well to check out the alternator you turn the car on and use a volt meter. V sould be about 13-15. or just take it to a Sears guy and they through a comp and do a batt test and an alternator test. To adjust the power on the AC unit umm I don't think you can I never heard about that before. Hope this helps

You can not adjust the power on the ac...but if the drain continues only when the ac is activated and the car has had a tune up the compressor clutch may be going bad.

goose, did you have a chance to troubleshoot your problem? the alternator went bad on my 95 civic when I hit 100K miles, so you're almost there too. it was no easy task, but I replaced it myself, I'm sure you can do the same.

Believe it or not the lights draw a lot more power than people realize.

If you have just your low beams on at 55w each you are drawing about 200 watts or more because you have to add in all the marker lights, taillights and instrument lights as well.
