Question Loosing Brake Pressure at stoplights with MAX AC on...

Ok, I know this sounds wierd... but....

If I have the AC on MAX (recirculated and max fan) - while sitting at a stoplight I loose brake pressure.

If I have the AC on normal (non-recirculated and max fan) - no problem....

New master brake cylinder??

P.S. I cannot find or smell brake fluid leaking on the ground or under the car anywhere...........

Had the same problem in my 92 civic...it is your vacuum check valve...let me guess that this problem arose after installing an intake?

Just follow the hose coming off of your booster and when you see a white plastic disk...you found it!

Sweeeeet.... I will stop by the auto parts store and pick up a new one today...... you guys ROCK... thanks for the PIC DR I am sure it will help a bunch.

Does this affect other things, like shifting and such? I feel stupid that I did not know of such an important part of my car!

Oh yeah... how did you know that I did "intake work"... does high flow filter/intake cause this valve to go bad?.... maybe I should buy an extra to have around ....

Your actual Check Valve is in the line above your brake booster close to your firewall. The line comes off of your booster and goes up and across the top of the firewall, it is grey and about 1" in diameter.

The booster works off of vacuum pressure supplied by the intake when the car is running. The check valve maintains a constant and specific amount of pressure in the system. When you replace the filter, add an intake, turbo, etc., you change the airflow. When this change occurs a normally good working check valve will fail.

The check valve isnt worthless. It is just used to a specific set up and when you change one thing it can not compensate. Unless the car is new sooner or later it will have to be replaced once air flow is changed...the more miles on the car the sooner the change has to be made.

Depending on the valve quality you may only have to change it once. I changed the one on my 92 and it lasted the 16 months till I sold her. But they are only a few bucks and if it would make you feel better to have another one laying around it wouldnt hurt anything.
