It's not perfect but is a starting point.
If your tires are signifigantly different from stock, forget about the reccomended door jam pressures. They won't work
I bought my 06' Si slightly used. The previous owner got rid of the stock tires and added summer rubber with a PSI of 45. I've always followed what the tires say and not the door jams. Is that correct? Or should I follow the doors or maybe a balance between both? Common sense says the tires, but I'd like to know I'm not doing something wrong.

follow the tires...

the jams are for the exact brand of tire and a smooth ride at the factory...how often do we buy the same tire the car came with originally anyways?

Don't max out the pressures. You won't get enough grip. The formula I gave usually runs on the low side, but like I said, it's just a starting point. Are the tires Yokohamas? Yokohama has a guide to tell you what pressures to run in their tires (can also give you a good idea of what to run on non-Yokohama tires of the same size too).
