Thanks for the replies,

The car had about 3 miles on it. It seems to run perfectly well.

This is my fourth Honda and the first time I've ever had to check the oil so much.

I'm way past the break-in period, with almost 6k miles on it and a couple of oil changes (natural oil so far).

After a few more hundred miles, I bring it back to check the exact amount of oil left.

I check it pretty much every day. It's holding at the lower marker-just enough oil.

As for the hostile comments, no harm done.

If anyone is interested-

went back to Honda at 600 miles. It had lost about a half-quart of oil. I thought that was kind of a lot, but the service boss said it was about average for a K20. He suggests I not do anything else-just add a half a quart every 800 miles or so and keep checking it.

Just a general query on this topic.Do Civic 1.6 Vtec engines have any history of excessive oil consumption after about 40K miles or more.

hello Desmond, welcome to HondaClub! I don't believe that's the case... if the oil level is dropping it's possible there's a leak somewhere. Have you checked for oil leaks?

I am running a 95 Accord Aerodeck at the moment which has been great, but I no longer need a large car.I asked the general question as I am considering buying a Civic 1.6 Auto and wondered if people with experience have had any underlying issues with the power or transmission units.

I finally got mine fixed-there was a leaky valve cover. You have to be really persistent!
