I would say b16, high reving VTEC, and a lot of aftermarket support

just don't get the h22 if you plan to turn anytime soon, the weight really messes up your car

If you are talking about a non-vtec block and VTEC head I would not do that because the block is not designed for the pressures of VTEC, I would only get an engine that is designed for VTEC

Correct me if i'm wrong, but, i don't think an ls block would get messed up because of the addition of a vtec head. We're talking about a 30-45 hp gain. You can gain as much power through boosting, nitrous, or even a bunch of bolt-ons, and it wouldnt hurt the engine given that proper a/f ratios are maintained. The only way I see it going wrong is maybe improper lubrication. Given that the motor will be revving higher, additional lubrication would be helpful.

IMO the ls-vtec can outperform b16 all day, and even gsrs off the line.

LS is an economy car and most people who make a LS VTEC swap rev it very high and just mistreat a lower end (LS) motor. My vote is a B16A with a SC, or a LS VTEC and build the bottem end with GSR components.

The B16 has a lot of aftermarket support too, although it is a little low on torque, but having low torque is part of having a 4cyl honda
