I bought an Alpine Mono Amp (MRP-M500) with 500W max and I have a 12" Alpine Sub (SWS-1243D) with 900W max and 300W RMS connected to it. I'm using my factory speakers and factory head unit on my 2009 Honda Civic EX-L.
Can my amp support a second sub (same kind)? Please provide as much detail/suggestions as possible. Thanks.

Yup, but each sup would roughly get 250W max. You might as well just throw one sub on there until you get a better amp.

Yeah, but I think you've gotta wire it weird. Do a little searching and you'll find out how to wire 'em up.

You might be good if you bridge it. Where you hook up the wires from the amp to sub it should have above the positive and negative symbols the two leads you need to bridge them

if you go to Car Audio Help - Information Site you can find alot of information about wiring and car audio systems. if you want you could do either parallel wiring or series wiring, here is the page

This amp is a monoblock and cannot be bridged. In terms of running more than one speaker, it really depends on what the resistance rating is on your subs. I looked only and it looks like they are dual 4 ohm voice coils. This amp is stable at 2 ohms. However, you cannot two 12" 4 ohm dual voice coils speakers to wire to 2 ohms. You could either wire each speakers voice coils in series to produce an 8 ohm load from each speaker and then wire those speakers in parallel to provide a 4 ohm load to the amp (which only puts at 300w rms at 4 ohm's @ 14.4v) or you could wire the voice coils in each speaker in parallel to produce a 2 ohm load for each speaker and then wire the speakers in a series to produce a 4 ohm load on the amp. The third option is to wire each speakers voice coils in parallel and then the speakers in parallel, but this produces a 1 ohm load and the mrp-m500 is not rated to be stable at 1 ohm. So here is your choice: You can either run both subs, each with 150w rms at nominal power (14.4v) or you can run one 12" sub, wire the voice coils in parallel to produce a 2 ohm load, which then would provide the one sub with 500w rms at nominal power (14.4v). While you will push more air with the two speakers, I think you will find that one 12" is louder. What you could do is buy an mrp-m1000, or mrp-m2000. (your subs could take the 2000 if you turned the gain, and bass boost down to very minimum settings). I currently am working on an spl build with two 10" Dc Audio Level 4's and a mrp-m2000. I produce 146 db, but without a good trunk class in dbdrag, iasca, or meca, there is not much I can do to stay competitive. ![]() Any more questions, feel free to ask. |
