Cool Subs for my 96 Integra

Hey Guys. I bought a 96 Integra and i am looking for some subs that will work good for this car. type of music:rock, hip-hop, and the occasional rap. What size amp and subs would be suitable in this car. I an hoping for two subs that are powerful but not too powerful due to a strict sound level law in my city. Does anybody have any suggestions such as size or brand? I'm not very experienced in this field so i am looking for some advice that is easy to understand if possible. Thanks to all!

I also have a 96 integra and the same music taste as you've stated. I tried every size sub from 10's to a 15 as i work for a specialist car sound company and i found that 2 10 inch subs gave a really crisp/punchy bass without over-shadowing the higher parts e.g singing..12's are also good but then you start to get more of a boom which is good if its what you want but i think you may find it a bit too over the top for what you need. JBL at the moment are doing really good deals on sub and amp packages and give a really good quality sub for the money.

first thing you should get is a amp that is about 2000 watts or close like a 1920 kole audio amp then get two 8 or 10 inch JL audio subs in an original box. the 1920 kole audio amp is a really good amp because it is one amp that you can adjust to make as much bass that you want.

if i got a smaller box for the two subs than they will fit. right now the current box is way too big for the trunk and is too big for the size of subs it holds. is it better for me to built a single box for both subs or two seperate boxes for the subs?

I would suggest JL W3's 12in. w/ a 500watt amp. Also get them in a sealed box.

The interestin thing you will find is, due to brand loyalty -- everyone will tell you what they bought, and not how to shop for a high end sub.

Personally, my opinions:

1. work on the whole system, i hate boom boom with distortion in the mids and highs because only the low end was considered during upgrade

2. go with "best of breed"... in the case of Subs - JL Audio is clearly the leader (the W3 is sweet - dual voice coil... POWER HUNGRY BUT SOUND great in a good install

4. Alpine makes a good mid-bass sub - but if you want good low response with lots of power - you cannot beat a dual voice coil JL>

Another note - SUB sizing.....

Basically, something you should consider....

The bigger the sub, the bigger the sound (but not neccessarily better souding)....

If you like tight, rock bass drum bass - dual 8" or 10" will suffice. If you want the big Boom Boom of modern rap/rock (i.e. Korn)... 12" are a must...

If you like good frequency response but are not looking to shake windows, buy a single sub and enclosure... if you want to break windows - make sure you buy a pair of subs and give them lots of juice....

If you like tight rock bass - you may consider an "air tight" enclosure (usually requires more space)... if you like the ultra-low boom boom - go with a well tuned ported enclosure (which usually also saves on space)....

So - it's a relationship between the power, the speakder type and size, and the enclosure type and size.... Usually the limitations are space and money.....

hope this helped some.....
