Ok... So I bought paint but it's not wrinkle paint. It's High-Heat paint by Dupli-Color. I got 4 coats on now, and going to do a 5th once I posted this, well, post!

The directions say I have to 'bake'* it at 300°F for 2 hours.

What I wanted to know is; If there is still oil residue** under the cover, is it safe to put it in the oven? I don't want to run upstairs a half hour later with the smoke alarm going off and the whole house smelling of burning oil. (Even worst, could it catch fire?)

I live with my parents and they will be sleeping when I do this cause I can't let them find out I'm using the oven to cook paint on a valve cover!

EDIT: also, when should I cure it? while still tacky or when dry?

------------------
* bake = cure
** I cleaned it up as much as possible, but there's a plate that I can't get under to clean.

If there is still oil residue on the cover the paint will not stick properly...it must be as clean as an infants arrest record...

I asked my mom the next morning if she smelled anything funny in the kitchen? She said "no, why?" "Oh, no reason... no reason at all!"
