Mini Article 2006+ Civic Si Power Options, current and future
FYI, The stock Si is about 170 whp Turbo Right now this is the best option for tons of power, but at the same time you also have the issue of turbo maintenance, and turbo lag. You can get a smaller turbo, and less lag, but that means less power, the current kits are: Greddy this kit is reliable, but does not give big gains, look for around 230whp, but is relatively cheap AJP This kit can get you up past 350whp, but has issues with reliability, quality, and customer service. Supercharging You will usually get less power than a well built turbo, but will get power quicker, more power in the lower RPM range, and you dont have a turbine that you have to cool down. However you do have a belt you have to replace every 20-50 thousand miles. CompTech Relatively reliable, around 250whp with bolt ons (possibly about 230 whp on a an otherwise stock car) insanely linear hp curve, and absolutely flat torque curve. Uses an ECU reflash. Since CompTech is no more this kit is VERY hard to find. ex CompTech S/C with race header, EVO2 Exhaust, CAI, and Hondata IMG ![]() Moss Motors Comes with the Vishnu XEDE piggyback engine management, 235whp, not much is known about this kit at this time, is strangely unpopular, for unknown reasons. Redshift This kit should be out by the end of the month, intercooled, twin screw, 300whp monster, and the guys from redshift seem to really know what they are doing, and this is expected to be a quality product. This kit uses a Hondata Reflash N/A options Making it breathe better The k20z3 responds pretty well to bolt on mods that allow it to breathe better. Based on various dynos here are some attainable numbers: CAI 7hp Exhaust 8hp Race Header 10hp Shorty Header and High Flow Cat 7hp Hondata IMG 5hp Ported Intake manifold 10hp The Hondata Reflash can also give you some impressive results: ![]() For the future you can also consider upgrades such as the TSX exhaust cam, or possibly cams from the new Civic Type-R, a k24 block can also give you some low end torque, something the k20z3 is lacking. Please keep in mind this was just a quick mini article I threw together in about 15 minutes, and many more possibilities will open up when we finally get a k-pro for the 8th (or 6th, depending who you ask) gen Civic Si. A note for you sedan owners, with the exception of the exhaust, where a pipe approximately 2 long must be welded in somewhere, most mods for the coupe should fit.
