That's right, the 92nd running of the Indianapolis 500 is next Sunday, May 25. Typically, May 25 is when an Unser wins, but this year there are no Unsers in the field. The Front Row is Scott Dixon, Dan Wheldon, and Ryan Briscoe. This is THE YEAR to watch the race. This is the first year since 1995 that the IRL and CART have run as one organization (The Indy Car Series). The drivers and teams are the strongest combos for years and the racing has been good thus far. How good? Buddy Lazier bumped Roger Yasukawa from the field with less than 10 minutes to go before qualifying ended. Trying to make the field, Mario Dominguez crashed his car on his second lap of his final try (after the final gun had sounded. He would have had it too if he hadn't lost it). Oval racing is typically pretty boring stuff to watch, but this is Indy. Good stuff.
What does this have to do with Hondas? Every car this year will start the race with a 3.0 liter Honda Indy V8. They will run at 10K RPM for much of the 500 mile race (and you thought you were rough on your car). Coverage starts at 12:00 pm Eastern time on ABC. I would love to see Buddy Lazier, Helio Castroneves, either John or Marco Andretti, or any of the Chap Car guys win the race. My prediction would be on either Dan Wheldon, Scott Dixon, or Helio Castroneves. This is going to be a good one, watch it.
