Default 2000 Accord, programed keys?

My mom has a 2000 Accord, no particular bells and whistles except for power locks and doors. She had a major problem with it and took it in for repair, and after she got it back only one of her keys would start the car. Now, these are just plain keys, no chips or anything, so how could they be programed?

Are both of the keys a part of the factory issued set? I have a copy of the main key to my 97, it wont crank the car either, although it will open the door.

Yeah, they are. That's the weird part. They only had one of them when they did the work on the car, and that's when they said they programmed it. Funny, my husband has a Toyota, and the copy of his key will open the door and crank it. When I had my 96 a copy of the key would both open and crank it. I just wondered what happened since then, since the key has no chip.

The keys from 98 and up are coded for each car. There is a break bypass code but you have to get it from honda with your vin #. Now all hondas have a valey key normally gray but for 97 and down its round.

Default keys

i used to work at Curry Honda changing oil, i found out alot while working there.

ok, they must of reset her ecu or something, because to do that you have to manually delete keys from the program.

the keys have chips in them, only keys that have been registered using odb 2 programmer. to do this you go into the programmer and go into a certain setting, and insert the keys one by one and register them. you can only register either 3 or 5 keys i can't remember which.

Take your car back with all the keys, tell them what happened, and make them register the keys for your car, don't leave until they do, it should only take them 10 minutes max.

Don't try to reset the ECU.

Use the key that works and take it back to Honda. They should be able to fix your problem, since it was their mistake. Assuming you have all your repairs done by Honda. If not, a new programmed key runs about 125 dollars, and they can make you as many as you would like. The chip is under the H emblem on the key, if the key is submerged under water, dropped, or anything that would damage a remote control it is prone to not work.
