Well, truth is I no longer have this particular car, but this always puzzled me and I wondered if it was common to 96 Accords. The steering wheel was always off center. You would have to turn ever so slightly to the left to get it to go straight. I had to have some work done on it that involved the steering column, and after that it never did turn correctly. I figured it was because they had adjusted something and the steering wheel was more out of whack than it had been. I got rid of it not long after that, but was there any documentation of steering problems in the 96?

I had a neighbor who said she had some sterring problems but never said what they were. Did you take it to a dealership to fix? I'm usually not a fan of that, but when it's something like that I have more of a tendency to seek out people who are focused on the breed, so to speak.

It sounds like your steering wheel is out of ajustment. You can actually fix it yourself. All you have to do is make sure your wheels of the car are straight then go in the floor board of the drivers side and take the black piece of plastic off the steering column and where the column meets the steering rack there is a u joint with two ten mm loosen them then slide the shaft up but dont turn the steering wheel all the way around cause you will screw up the clock reel and your air bag will stay on. Turn the wheel where it is straight now slide shaft back on the steering rack and put everything back together.

Thank you for explaining this! I have another car I've been wanting to do this with and just couldn't see grabbing the manual for one little thing, since I don't do any of my own work anymore (and wouldn't put a wrench in my husband's hands unless he were going to beat an attacker with it).

Just some FYI, all cars have a right side pull from the factory. It's a saftey so if you happen to fall asleep the car is less prone to drift left into oncoming traffic. However, the accord sounds like radial tire wear or possibly an alignment problem. What the car ever wrecked into anything? If even a curb it can do damage to a tie rod or control arm and you will see a problem.
