Question 97 Accord DX Frozen Door Locks

I live in a suburb of Chicago and bought my 97 Accord new. Ever since I've owned it, in the winter the door locks always freeze. I've tried using powdered graphite to lube the locks, but that doesn't help. I've also tried WD40 and that doesn't help. I know the trick about heating up the key to thaw out the locks as well as using rubbing alcohol, but what I'm trying to figure out is how to prevent the locks from freezing in the first place. Building a garage or moving to a warmer climate is not an option so please don't suggest that. I appreciate any HELPFUL input. Thanks!

At least you're not getting locked in your car

anyways, I googled and stumbled accross this if you want an easier way to unfreeze your locks

I don't know if there is anyway to prevent it, maybe really powerful power locks

No I haven't been locked in my car, but I've had to get in through the trunk a couple of times when the locks were frozen. Not fun! When I'm trying to get to work, I just want to get in the car a fast as possible so as not to be late. Going through the trunk is faster than taking the time to mess with the locks. Thanks for the warp speed reply and the link. I have heard of those battery operated lock thawers, but haven't heard how well the work.

I also found that info on Google. I'll have to try the Teflon lube. Luckily when I have to get in through the trunk it's early in the morning so no one is usually around. You gotta do what you gotta do, right? Thanks for the input. I wonder why nobody else has offered any suggestions on this thread? I guess I'm the only one with this problem!

I guess it's better late than never to update this post. A friend of mine told me about Gibbs Penetrating Oil that he bought at a gun show and he swears by it. I went to a gun show and bought a can and sprayed my door locks. I have not had a problem since with frozen locks!! I don't think it's sold in stores, but if you Google it you can find mail order dealers
