Default "89 accord acceleration issues

I find that my accord accelerates erratically. By this I mean as I accelerate in first gear, around 2000 rpm to 4000 rpm the car sort of hesitates then once at 4k rpm the power picks up. The problem is noticable in all the gears between 2k and 4k rpm. I have a manual transmission, 2.0L four cylinder engine with fuel injection. It may be that the car just needs a tune up (new wires, plugs, distributor) but all of this has been done about a year ago. Upon inspection, nothing looks out of the ordinary. Is there any other suggested problems? Has anyone had this type of problem? Thank you.

I have an '89 LXi 5 speed and had similar problems, which were all due to a faulty engine sensor. After replacement, the car ran like a top.

I have a 88 Honda accord Lxi auto. When it changes gears it seems to jump into the next gear, is that normal for allot of Honda's? It has 170,000 miles on it.

for about 170k it is...

if it was his clutch it would be worse in higher rpms...he levels out at 4k...

just a fuel to air ratio thing...check your sensors and throttle body and injectors...

reallly you think? What do you mean? When you say it jumps? Like does it seem like it slips in gear? or shifts hard? I have 175000 on my accord it does not do that.... Is it manual?or auto? I would say there is numerous things it could be. Like eyes said but also check linkage and also levels of fluid. and also could be a vacuum leak.... Just some more ideas if those did not work..

Yea its a auto, its kinda hard to explain. Its almost like it jerks into the next gear, it is less likely to do it when I've been on the road for 20 min or longer. Its not a smooth shift change, and like I said when Ive been on the road for awhile it gets better....
