Default SRS and Maintenance Required lights

I have an 02 accord EX V6. I bought it used and not even a week after I drove it off the lot the srs and main req lights came on. Needless to say I took it back to the dealership. They fixed it (said it was a loose ground). About 2 months later the lights came back on. Shortly thereafter I lost the ability to use my steering wheel controls for the radio and cruise control, and my horn stopped working. I've been told that the problem is probably the clock spring in the steering column. Does this sound right to everyone here? Is this something I could replace on my own or should I pay the $150 and have my mechanic do the work for me?

How experienced/knowledgable are you?

I ask this because working around the srs system is dangerous...especially for a novice...one wrong move and boom!...there goes $1500

The contacts are way in the column...you have to disable the srs, remove the column covers, remove the airbag, remove the wheel connector adapter, remove the steering wheel, and then you should see it...

It is a lot of work and when you reconnect the srs system you have to put the plug in square...if you do it slightly lop sided you can set off the airbag.

I actually had the sh*t scared out of me working on a shifter when the guy in the next bay did it...it was hilarious afterwards because he came out the car like it was on fire...had on heck of a bruise on the side of his head too!

I had the same problem with mine and yes the problem with your steering controls is the clock spring but also there is a recall on that model accord for a SRS Sensor. honda will pay to have it fixed.
