I purchased a new 2007 Honda Accord with automatic transmission three weeks ago. I have noticed that the between 1st gear and 2nd gear the car seems to "hesitate" when shifting. I have also noticed it when I am slowing down - at about 5 mph the brakes almost seem to release slightly - again when it seems to be shifting down the final time. Any suggestions?

by the brakes releasing slightly do u mean the pedal goes down more or out more or the brake pads litterly release off the rotors a lil bit?

The hesitation between shifts, on an older vehicle would be stretched bands in the transmission, i am not to to familiar with the 07 model, but if it is fly by wire, it could be just a millisecond delay in transmission of signal from ecu to tranny that would be a little noticeable with the added fact that the ecu is attempting to shift the vehicle as smooth as mechanically possible.

Thanks for the response. I now have about 2,000 miles on the car and either the shift is getting better or I am adjusting to the difference between my older buick and my new Honda. A neighbor mentioned the fly by wire issue and suggested that if it continues to be of concern, I should have the dealership disconnect the battery to "reprogram" the communication between the ecu and the tranny. I might give that I try if I think it's still a problem when I hit 5,000 miles or so.

dre - It is when I am coming to a gentle stop at around 5 mph. I would say that it is more like the brake pads slightly releasing from the rotor. I typically ease off the brake slightly at that point to make a soft stop and I am wondering if I am duplicating something that is already built into the system so that the car automatically makes a softer stop - maybe???

I personally would bring it back to the dealer and tell them the problems you feel you are having. Maybe something is wrong with the car and it can be repaired under warranty. You could also go test drive another car like yours and see if it feels the same.

I noticed the same thing on my wife's Fit...there is a new mutli-stage computerized braking system that Honda has been experimenting with and was put in a few models for the 07 model year...basically the ABS systems tracks your speed and once it drops below a preset limit it slightly releases pressure to...as you said...smooth out the stop.
It felt a little wierd getting used to it, but now I am just more p.o.'ed about her paddle shifters...lol
