Oh wow, that's a huge hassle and a ton of money for a refurbished part. Some people worry about hybrids for this very reason. Will they last as long as regular cars, or fall apart earlier than expected? They haven't been around long enough to really say. That does seem like a very short life span on a transmission, however, you couldn't find a car of the comparable value for what you will pay for the transmission. I would keep it this time, and then if something else goes wrong pretty soon, get rid of it. It may just be the car.
