Second what Primetime said. Standard motor oil swells the rubber and seals in an engine (gasoline does the same thing. I found this out the hard way when I went to replace my fuel pump and my car failed the gas tank pressure test). Synthetic pulls all teh tiny debris left behind by the regular oil and shrinks the seals (it basically super cleans them). and of course leaving you drain plug losse doesn't help either. Compression test it ASAP, you might have missed the bullet if you catch it right away. Switch oils immediately too.
