I'd say these guys are right. Keep your daily driver stock, for the most part. I've tried fixing up my cars while keeping them as my daily driver, and it BY FAR the HARDEST thing to do. You can't have your car in pieces on the garage floor when you have to be at work in the morning, while continuing to pay for gas and insurance as well, it just doesn't make fiscal sense. Get yourself either an 86-87 civic Si, or an 88-91 Civic. You can find the 88-91 all over the place and they make for EXCELLENT motor swap candidates, especially with the B-series motors, be it a B16 or B18. The 86-87 Civic Si is harder to find but you can still swap the B series motors in them. The 86-87 Si also has the advantage of being the lightest Civic, and you get a sunroof/Targa that removes completely, a rear seat that is actually VERY easy to remove (4 bolts), and the car handles WAY better thank you'd think!
I also think you should take the time to do the swap by yourself/with a knowledgeable mechanic if you know one. But you need to have access to a garage where no one will care if you have a bunch of parts laying around for a while, and access to the proper tools, like a air compressor/impact tools and not your dad's little toolbox, no offense. Its a major job to do a swap and will take you and at least 1 buddy about a day or two if you know what you're doing. If you don't want to do all that then go to a shop and spend the bucks to eliminate the hassle, and let someone else handle it. In summary, either pay someone to do the swap and be carless for at least a week (and you're looking at LEAST 2-3000), or get yourself a project car and go from there.
