Messing with crash restraint systems is a risks business, another thing of note, if your seat is not secured properly and you are in a frontal collision it is possible that the seat could push against you and the harness crushing you.
Its an interesting idea, but there is a reason that people haven't done it.
btw, if you do go for the harness only a few are DOT approved, any make sure its something that you can get out of quickly in case of fire or submersion.
