Big wheels hurt performance because of rotational weight, especially at the edges. The further something gets from the center of a circle, the harder it is to get moving (and stopping. Nobody mentioned that this will hurt your braking too). They are also harder to keep on the ground because they have more inertia, so every time they go up, they spend more time in the air then on the ground. Heavier wheels also wear parts out faster (like suspension bushings). Most lightweight wheels end at 17". Nobody makes light, forged wheels at 18".
